Miyota 9015
Introduced in 2009, the Miyota 9015 was the company's first entirely new mechanical caliber in roughly 30 years and sits at the top of their 9000 series — a deliberate step up from the older 8215. Miyota (a subsidiary of the Citizen Watch Group) designed it from the ground up as a premium in-house offering rather than a derivative of an existing architecture, with a notably slim 3.9 mm profile, 28,800 bph beat rate, hacking seconds, and bidirectional hand-winding.
In the broader mid-range automatic market the 9015 competes directly with the ETA 2824-2 and Sellita SW200-1, offering comparable beat rate and functionality at a significantly lower price point. Its thin height and reliable specifications made it a go-to choice for a large number of independent microbrands and smaller established houses seeking a capable movement without the supply restrictions and cost of Swiss alternatives.
A cosmetic variant exists with a gold-toned finish but shares identical mechanical specifications to the standard 9015; Miyota does not offer named performance grades for this caliber. The rotor winds via a ball-bearing system, and the shock protection system is Miyota's own Parashock design.
