Soprod P024

The P024 was introduced around 2020 — Soprod stamped it with an "Invention 2020" designation — making it one of the newer entries in the crowded field of ETA 2824-2 derivatives. Soprod itself dates to 1966 and is now part of the Festina industrial group; some component manufacturing (bridges and mainplates) takes place at its Maîche facility in France, though the movement retains Swiss Made status.

Like the Sellita SW200-1, the P024 exploits the expiry of ETA's utility patents on the 2824-2 architecture to offer a dimensionally compatible alternative. It shares the same 25.6 mm casing diameter, 4.6 mm height, 28,800 bph beat rate, and 25-jewel count as its rivals, and is confirmed drop-in compatible with ETA 2824-2 tooling. A Glucydur balance and Incabloc shock absorber are standard fitments.

At least one regulation tier exists: Monochrome Watches documented the Hanhart Aquasphere Ocean Fade (2024) using a variant described as "Soprod SOP P024 TOP automatic," adjusted to 0 to +8 s/day average over six positions — considerably tighter than the standard −0/+14 s/day specification. Whether Soprod markets a full ETA-style grade ladder (Standard, Elaboré, Top, Chronometer) for this caliber could not be confirmed from available sources.

The P024 is available with and without a date complication; a skeletonized variant (P024SQ) also exists. Brands documented using it include Charlie Paris, Hanhart, Benrus, and Praesidus.

FAQ

Is the Soprod P024 automatic or manual?

The Soprod P024 is an automatic (self-winding) movement: a rotor winds the mainspring from the motion of your wrist, so it needs no battery. It can also be wound by hand via the crown.

What is the power reserve of the Soprod P024?

About 38 hours on a full wind — enough to run overnight off the wrist, though a day or two idle will let it stop until you wear or wind it again. Power reserve is how long the Soprod P024 keeps running once you stop wearing or winding it.

Does the Soprod P024 hack (stop the seconds when you set it)?

Yes. Pulling the crown stops the seconds hand, so the Soprod P024 can be set precisely to a reference time before you push the crown back in. Hacking is what lets you sync several watches — or a watch and a phone — to the exact second.

Does the Soprod P024 have a date function?

Yes — the Soprod P024 can drive a date display, though whether a given watch actually shows the date depends on the dial the maker chose, so check the individual model rather than the movement.
