Sellita SW200-1

Formally introduced on 19 August 2008, the SW200-1 is the second-generation centrepiece of Sellita Watch Co. S.A.'s catalogue, produced in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Its development was driven by Swatch Group's 2003 announcement that ETA would progressively restrict movement supply to brands outside the group, leaving hundreds of independent Swiss watchmakers without a reliable engine source.

Sellita developed the caliber independently after the ETA 2824-2 patent lapsed rather than copying from a live design. The result is dimensionally identical to the ETA — same 25.6 mm diameter, same 4.6 mm height, same dial-foot positions and crown-stem spec — making it a true drop-in replacement. One deliberate improvement is a 26th jewel added under the ratchet wheel to reduce friction during automatic winding (the ETA 2824-2 has 25). The mainspring is sourced from a Swiss supplier other than ETA's Nivarox-FAR division, and the gear-tooth profile differs slightly, which independent watchmakers note allows more precise regulation.

Four quality tiers are offered: Standard (adjusted in 2 positions, ±30 s/day), Special/Elaboré (3 positions, ±20 s/day), Premium/Top (5 positions, ±15 s/day), and a COSC-certified Chronometer grade (−4/+6 s/day). Shock protection escalates from Novodiac at Standard to Incabloc at higher tiers.

As ETA's external distribution contracted through the 2010s, the SW200-1 became the default caliber across a large share of the Swiss-made mid-market. Near-complete parts interchangeability with the ETA 2824-2 means the same tools and spare parts serve both movements — a practical advantage for independent watchmakers and the micro-brand ecosystem built around this price segment.
